1962 Alfa Romeo Giulietta Spider
Designed by Pininfarina
The Alfa Romeo Giuiletta was a family of automobiles made from 1954 to 1965 which included a coupe, four-door saloon, estate, spider, Sprint and Sprint Speciale. The coupe was a 2+2 and Alfa Romeo’s first successful foray into the 1.3-litre class. From 1954 to 1965 a total of 177.690 Giuliettas were produced. The Giulietta series was succeeded by the Giulia in 1962.
The Alfa Romeo Spider was based on the Alfa Romeo Giulietta Sedan but having a shorter chassis and benefitting from a beautiful Pininfarina design, the car was introduced in 1955. A first styling update was introduced at the Frankfurt Motorshow in 1959. Later, in Autumn 1961 the Giulietta was updated a second time. Both Normale and T.I. had revised engines and new exhaust systems; output rose to 61 bhp and 73 bhp. With this new engine the car could reach a speed of almost 160 km/h (99 mph). At the front of the car square mesh side grilles were now pieced together with the centre shield, and at the rear there were larger tail lights. Inside the T.I. had individual instead of bench seats, with storage nets on the seatbacks.
Our Alfa Romeo Giuiletta Spider
This Alfa Romeo Giuiletta Spider was delivered when new in Italy back in 1962. On September 7, 1967, the car was imported by European racing legend Ad den Teuling. He enjoyed the car for a 5 year period and sold the car to Alfa Romeo Dealer Wimedo in Amersfoort (The Netherlands) in 1972.
Former company manager, Kees van Stokkum, had exclusive right to drive the car. Later, Kees van Stokkum would start his own business – the well known Italian car specialist – Italauto (in Achterveld, only 10 kilometers away from Amersfoort). In 1975 the Alfa Romeo Giulietta Spider was sold to a collector in Mijdrecht (The Netherlands). For 1984 the car was presented at the annual calendar of Dutch car magazine “Nederlands Autokampioen”. In 2006 the car was bought by a Mr Visser and completely restored. This restoration is completely documented by pictures and invoices. Since restoration is finished the car is enjoyed sparingly and drove around 10,000 KMs.
This Alfa Romeo Giulietta Spider is for sale. This might be one of the best examples available at todays market. The car comes with a great history file and a valid Dutch registration and is ready to be enjoyed.
