ABOUT
The Zagato-bodied Flaminia’s
The Lancia Flaminia Sport was built by Zagato. It used the same shorter wheelbase chassis as the Lancia Flaminia GT. The car had a very distinctive rounded aluminium body with pop-out handles. The Super Sport replaced the Sport in 1964 with the introduction of the 2.8 liter engine. The first Sports had flush covered headlights, later changed to more classic round ones. The Super Sport also saw some changes – the rear was updated to a Kammback, while the front was made more aerodynamic with distinctive tear-shape headlight casings.
A total production of circa 599 cars were produced (some say 593 examples, numbers may vary), divided in five different models. The first model was called Lancia Flaminia Sport Zagato and came with a 2.458 cc 6 cylinder engine and 1 carburetor, delivering a 119 horsepower. This car was available with covered headlights between 1959 and 1960 and followed by a classic headlight setup, circa 205 examples were produced. This was followed by the Flaminia Sport 3C. This model came with the same engine but now had 3 carburetors and delivered 140 horsepower. Between 1962 and 1963 a total of 174 examples were produced. In 1963 this model was improved with a 2.775cc 6 cylinder engine that still had 3 carburetors, now delivering 150 horsepower. Of this model only 33 examples were produced. The last model was slightly updated and became known as the Lancia Flaminia Super Sport 3.C 2,8. This model was available from 1967 until 1967 and in this period a total of 187 examples were produced. In this ultimate model the 2.775cc 6 cylinder engine with 3 carburetors delivered 152 horsepower. It became the most powerful and beautifully designed car.
