1966 Jaguar S-type 3.8

Introduction

The Jaguar S-type saloon was introduced in 1963 as a more luxurious counterpart of the Jaguar MK2. Main differences were the redesigned rear of the car which provided more room for the rear passengers and technically the MK2’s live rear axle was replaced by independent rear suspension as on the bigger Jaguar MK X. This made the handling of the S-type much better than that of the MK2. There was a choice between the 3.4 and 3.8 Litre XK engines, either fitted with a manual 4-speed gearbox with optional Overdrive or a 3-speed Automatic. The fastest version was the 3.8S 4-speed Overdrive which claimed to have a top speed of 196 km/h and a 0-100 in 10.2 seconds. A very fast saloon for the mid Sixties.
