ABOUT
In September 1965, the prototype of the Glas 2600 V8 was introduced at the Frankfurt IAA autoshow. A sporty four-seat coupe with V8 engine, DeDion rear axle and a Frua body kept in Maserati style, hence its nickname in Germany, the “Glaserati”. The Glas 2600 V8 was built from August 1966 until the beginning of 1967. The planed increase in engine displacement to 3.0 liters was only implemented once the company was taken over by BMW. The BMW roundel on top of the hood and the trunk lid certainly helped the image of the car. This model was produced between September 1967 until May 1968. Altogether only 718 copies were built: 300 GLAS 2600 V8 and 418 BMW (GLAS) 3000 V8.
This Glas 2600 V8 is one of only approximately 300 examples procued. The car was delivered to its first owner in October 1966. Little is known about the early history of the car. In 2003, the car was imported into The Netherlands and registered here. It was imported from Germany, where it was parked in a museum and on static display for several decades. It was acquired by a collector we know and a complete restoration was carried out in the period April 2018 – July 2022 in The Netherlands. The restoration was delayed as it was difficult to locate some parts during the Covid pandemic. During this restoration the car returned to its original color of Copper Metallic. When the restoration was finished, the car was acquired by a friend of our company and parked next to its big brother: a Frua-bodied Maserati 5000 GT. The car was driven and serviced regularly. Recently, we acquired this Glas 2600 V8 which is now ready for its future custodian.
This 1966 Glas 2600 V8 is for sale, please don’t hesitate to contact us for further details.
